It was one of these silly events that made me seek advice from all you experienced Mercedes lads, as with the fuel pump making noises i didn't want to drive her incase she sat down on me and well not being able to walk etc etc etc. Fuel Consumption 10.0 (Automatic City) 7.0 (Automatic Highway) 11.2 (Manual City). The pump relies on fuel to help cool it, and because it was starved of the "EXTRA" cooling fuel it started to heat and make funny noises, once i filled the tank, the noise has dissipated and hopefully wont return. What happened is, the car ran very low on fuel, and when it was returned to me it must have been on fumes!! i put a can of fuel in her to get me to the petrol station, and this can of fuel was not enough to put any in the reserve side of the tank, thus the pump took in some air as well as fuel from the main side of the tank. While driving on Hwy around 70m/hr on cruise control, the cruise would cut off and the engine would slow down. After the warranty ran out I got into a problem of engine stalling on Highway.
